Hey friends!

This blog will be on hiatus until further notice. Instead, follow my tumblr blog, which I'll still be updating regularly.

I may still use this one in the future for more in-depth process work, but right now I just don't have the time!

Sinking

One of my thesis pieces from this past semester.

I painted this in water-soluble oils on masonite board, and then brought it into the computer and digitally added linework and made adjustments.
I've come to realize that when working with oils, scanning just doesn't cut it. Special thanks to my brother Jason Idzerda for the use of his fancy camera skills; the photo picked up the look of the original painting so much better! Not the most efficient process for a piece, but satisfying in the end.

Spotty Lady and the Old Man

*Note: No, that's not actually the name of the story. But it should be.

I always enjoy comparing my rough work to a final once I've completed a project. On this occasion, I drew some exceptionally awesome brutal roughs to start, so naturally I'm extra happy to share them!

These are the first two pages of a folklore-based short story I did recently.

And some additional favourites from later pages:

Piano Man

This is one of my thesis pieces from the past semester. I'll hopefully be posting a few more things now that I'm off school for the holidays and have some time to breathe, so feedback is always appreciated!

I'll be switching my thesis up for next semester and doing some work with short stories, which I'm pretty excited about and will try to post updates on!

6:32 AM

Life has been hectic and I have been absent but here is some new/old work for your eyes.
It's another narrative piece (actual illustration pieces will come, I promise!) that I started a while ago but lost half of due to poor file transferring, and didn't get around to redoing until now.

The story is a memory from my teenage years.
